The artist has donated the entirety of his £25,000 award winnings to the MVT, which works to protect the United Kingdom's grassroots music venues.

He was given the award on 16 October as his new release People Watching was declared the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

The musician has decided to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the vital role small stages played in his beginning days.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the performances I did around the area, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," stated the artist. "These locations are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these locations have permanently closed – about 16 percent of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, top acts including the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to help venues survive, by applying a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which goes to help local stages.

Fender also took part, raising more than £100,000 on his recent tour to help thirty-eight local spots across the UK.

The donation assisted spaces that were dealing with possible closure due to challenges stemming from floods, blazes and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Some locations received funding support in modernizing amenities and technical equipment that helped performers and concertgoers.

"The idea that revenue from performances in major spaces supports the local stages, where it begins for musicians like me, is just common sense," Fender has said.

He is not the first artist to donate his award winnings to charitable organizations.

Back when the band received the award in the mid-90s for their record the album, lead singer the singer stated that the act would donate their prize money to the organization War Child.

In 2002, musician the artist split her bounty among several organizations, including the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I contributed a £1,000 to the center, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they required new equipment," she explained to a publication.

In recent years, Ezra Collective donated their prize money to the local youth club that nurtured their act, alongside other independent music bodies.

Additionally 1994 winners they gave their winnings to a MS organization after a acquaintance was diagnosed the disease.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," said vocalist the singer. "The prize was the cherry on top but we didn't require the extra, because we had the main prize. So our success impacted the lives of others."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust shared it had saved two grassroots venues in that region, by bringing them into community ownership.

One venue in the city and the second in the city were bought under the community ownership program, which is supported by a national body and supporters who buy "ownership units" in the buildings.
