Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

According to the DM, the warrior group is for players who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the actions of the third episode show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group knows exactly where to go next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death started the campaign’s events—used the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their status as important members in House Halovar could help the team reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to the remote area in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight players to round up the Seekers and Strategists parties.

Fans can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
